WHERE did the fortune that a destitute and homeless man promised would be invested in a house and investment go?
The disabled man claims that his lawyer – who happens to be President Jacob Zuma’s former attorney – failed to build him a house and invest the millions he won in legal damages.
But attorney Julekha Mahomed says Lucky Khutledi, who says he is destitute and homeless, was given his millions.
Khutledi says he sued the police successfully 15 years ago for a wrongful shooting that left him paralysed, and was awarded R1.68 million.
Mahomed has confirmed the award, but has said, through her attorney, Zain Randeree, that she owed Khutledi nothing.
The Star asked Mahomed over several days through Randeree to provide proof that the money had been handed over to Khutledi – without response.
Mahomed told The Star that “Mr Khutledi cancelled a contract for the building of a house and was refunded the monies paid”. – Anna Cox
