IT IS BILLED to be the “monster” of all concerts.
Not only is the FNB Stadium on lockdown ahead of tonight’s American pop megastar Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Ball concert, but excitement levels have reached fever pitch among the star’s “Little Monsters” who are flooding social networks with posts of costumes they’ll be wearing on the night.
Gaga, who arrived in South Africa on Tuesday evening with an entourage of 200 people reportedly needed seven vans to carry her costumes from Lanseria to an undisclosed hotel.
She was greeted by more than 300 screaming fans who had been eagerly awaiting her arrival at OR Tambo International Airport.
Gaga wrote on Twitter: “I’m so happy that I was able to see my fans at the Airport in South Africa. Thank u for all the time you waited, I appreciate and love you. X.”
Her fans were just as thrilled. @WesleyjvonRoy whose Twitter biography reads, “Monster till I die/ Saw Gaga at airport on 27/11/2012 for the first time in my life. She even looked at me,” tweeted yesterday: “Tomorrow night is gonna be the best night ever! ”
On road closures around the stadium, metro police spokesman Wayne Minnaar said: “Road traffic diversions will start at 6pm, which include the Soweto motorway between the N1 and Mentz Road. Traffic will be diverted from Nasrec Road at the Rand Show Road and the N17.”
He said fans, who have tickets to the concert, would be able to park at the Shareworld as well as the Nasrec parking areas.
In terms of park-and-ride facilities, tickets are R120 each (return) from Northgate Shopping Centre, East Rand Mall, Silverstar Casino and R160 from Menlyn Shopping Centre, Royal Elephant Hotel and Emerald Casino.
Buses will department from 2pm until 4pm, except for buses at Northgate Shopping Centre which leave at 4.30pm.
Thirty minutes after the show, buses will leave the stadium. Park-and-ride tickets can be purchased from Computicket.
There will also be three trains shuttling between Johannesburg Park Station and Nasrec.
Lady Starlight will open the stage at 6.30pm, The Darkness at 7.15pm and Gaga at 8.30pm.
