Soweto police have praised community members for active citizenry after three suspected armed robbers were arrested in Pimville yesterday.

Police spokesperson Hitler Ngwenya said three armed robbers entered the Pimville Square Pep Store around 5pm and stole some items then turned their attention to shoppers and robbed them.

"The robbers took cellphones, robbed some of the shoppers of their belongings and also took an undisclosed amount from the store's cash till. We also found them in possession of a laptop, which the can't explain the origins of. We suspect the laptop was taken from the Pep Store robbery," Ngwenya explained.

Ngwenya lauded the community for assisting the police by reporting the crime immediately.

"What I love about these arrests is the assistance we received from the community to apprehend the suspects. They were found in a red VW Polo getaway car. SAPS and the JMPD worked well with the community," Ngwenya enthused.

Meanwhile, a bystander discovered a decomposed, unidentified body in Dube of a man near the Daliwonga school, Ngwenya added. 

"The cause of death is unknown as a post-mortem still needs to be done. A murder inquest has been opened" 

He called on community members with information to come to the police and identify the body.
