AT LEAST two people were killed in a head-on collision in Linbro Park just before midnight.

Netcare911 spokesperson Nick Dollman said that at approximately 11.50pm last night, paramedics responded to reports of a very serious collision on the N3 direction towards Germiston. He said the accident between the Marlboro and London road off-ramps.

“Paramedics responded from their nearby base and were first to arrive at the scene. A large fire had engulfed the scene and nobody was able to approach any of the vehicles due to the intense heat,” he explained.

“Eyewitnesses alleged that a bakkie was travelling in the wrong direction on the highway and collided head-on with the truck.

“The fire department was called and firefighters arrived shortly afterwards,” Dollman said.

He confirmed that there were no survivors and it’s believed that at least two people perished in the crash and subsequent fire.

Dollman added that JMPD were also on the scene to investigate the exact cause of the crash.

This morning, three lanes still remained closed on the N3 as clean-up operation commenced following the large fire that had engulfed the vehicles.

JMPD spokesperson Superintendent Wayne Minnaar confirmed that there were huge delays and suggested motorists use the M1 South highway instead.
