Who can we believe – the doctors, the pharmaceutical firms or the pharmacies? For years we have been told that omega-3 fatty acid supplements boost memory and brain power in the elderly. But now scientists suggest this may not be so.
In a trial involving about 3 550 people aged over 60, it was found that those taking omega-3 fared no better than those trying regular margarine, sunflower oil or olive oil. They scored no better than the others in tests of mental ability,
It will be interesting to hear any reaction to this from a multibillion-dollar industry.
Meanwhile, think twice before swallowing that omega-3 capsule.
