Rapper AKA burned by Black Coffee

In typical AKA fashion, the rapper has once again found himself wrapped up in a twar.

On Sunday, the hot-headed musician took to Twitter to respond to a tweet by local DJ Black Coffee about the country’s hip hop industry.

The DJ tweeted: “Now that’s hip hop… not this nonsense some of our local hip hop artists do… some even attacking tweeps… Put in a song… We want MUSIC.”

He was referring to rap star Drake releasing a diss-track aimed at Nicki Minaj’s boyfriend and fellow rapper Meek Mills.

AKA launched his attack on the DJ, saying: “Black Coffee has some f**king nerve telling us what hip hop is and isn’t. What local rappers have to do with Drake’s song… I have no idea. What I do know is Black Coffee can’t tell me a f**king thing about rap. If it was Amu or Tumi or Jabba or whoever lecturing us… fine, by all means. But lanes… Stay in them.”

AKA seemed to feel that Black Coffee was targeting him personally. “This THING we local rappers are doing has taken a lot of sacrifice and hard work… It is most definitely hip hop. Local hip hop is up against enough obstacles already without Black Coffee talking down to us… AND WE ALL KNOW who and what he is referring to. So keep it real and say what you need to say. That guy hasn’t laid one brick in the building of SA hip hop.

“I respect Black Coffee and his legendary status etc… But you’re crazy if you think I’m gonna let him piss on SA hip hop.”

The DJ responded: “If the Shoe Fits, Lace it up my Dude. Hip Hop is MUSIC. Being arrogant has nothing to do with MUSIC. Being humble has nothing to do with any genre of music you do. BE HUMBLE.”

Twitter users quickly took sides and both parties trended countrywide.

Soon after the spat, Cassper Nyovest, a fellow rapper and rival to AKA, sided with the DJ by wishing him luck with his world tour.

He tweeted: “You can be a successful rapper and remain a humble being. I am a clear example of that.”

TWITTER RESPONSES:

@mlu_sims: Tumi and Amu already spoke on this and their sentiments were the same as that of Black Coffee. AKA has no leg to stand on with this one.

@Iam_Sikelela: AKA just proved Black Coffee’s point exactly; instead of him keeping it in and penning it down, he had to rant.

@ShottaZee: It is clear from Black Coffee’s subsequent tweets that that tweet was fired at AKA… And AKA is expected to chill. Screw that… ATTACK!!!

@JustZweli: Black Coffee is paid in at least 4 different currencies – euros, dollars, pounds and rands. AKA must sit this one out shem. Ngeke alunge!

@manuelacassuto: Black Coffee is the most legit, humble, kind and hardest working artist from SA, but AKA is all about boasting and hating. Pls, sit DOWN.

@NyteThooe: And AKA is bursting out on Black Coffee now?!! Guy deserves a holiday on Pluto.

@BaddieMimz: I’m with AKA on this one. Don’t throw stones and expect members of that culture to allow you cos you’re Black Coffee.
