Pictures of actor John Travolta cross-dressing have surfaced, and they may just cost him his marriage.

After having been accused of sexually assaulting a string of male masseurs, the ‘Saturday Night Fever’ icon is facing a fresh round of embarrassment after pictures of him in full drag surfaced in gossip rag The National Enquirer.

According to the Daily Mail, the pictures - which were not taken in preparation for any film role - feature the 58-year-old actor wearing a white dress, fur stole, earrings and necklace. A bra is visible beneath the dress. Completing the look is a blonde wig pulled back into a ponytail, thick black eyeliner and pink lipstick.

The photos were allegedly taken in 1997 at a party in Los Angeles, just six years after he had married actress Kelly Preston.

According to the Enquirer, this latest round of sexual scandal may prove to be the last straw for Preston.

“Kelly told me their marriage is over and made it clear that she's no longer living in the family home,” a friend of the actress said.

“She's put up with John's double life for decades while his behaviour remained in the shadows.

“But all this coming out in public has humiliated her. Kelly is absolutely destroyed.”

Meanwhile, the New York Daily News reported that Travolta offered one of his accusers $125 000 to keep his mouth shut.

Travolta’s lawyer Marty Singer has derided the claim as “completely false”, but masseuse and former Army medic John Truesdale is sticking to his story.

Truesdale did, however, withdraw his $2-million lawsuit against Travolta last week, as did the first person who accused the actor of sexual assault. The original plaintiff has yet to be named. Truesdale’s character has, however, been called into question after it emerged that he was fired from a massage job eight years ago for “sexually inappropriate” behaviour towards clients and staff.

His story about Travolta also doesn’t seem to add up, as Travolta has produced flight records and photos that place him at least 3 000 miles from the alleged assault in Beverly Hills on January 16. Truesdale claims he got the dates wrong.
