Sydney - Prince Harry swapped his starched white uniform for camouflaged combat fatigues on Sunday to mix with fellow professional soldiers at the Perth barracks of the Special Air Services regiment.
The 29-year-old royal flew to the west coast capital to end his first official visit to Australia before flying off to Dubai and a charity ball.
There were no public engagements in Perth, in contrast to Sydney, where helicopter pilot Harry was the queen's representative at a naval regatta.
“He said it was a short visit because he had to be back to work on Thursday,” West Australian state premier Coli Barnett said, describing the fourth in line to the throne as a “delightful young man, full of energy and enthusiasm.”
Harry was a big hit in Sydney, where tens of thousands flocked to the harbour hoping for a glimpse of the prince in his sparkling white tropical uniform.
“I just can't get the time off work these days,” the prince said when leaving Sydney. “The next time I come back you'll be struggling to get rid of me, I'm sure.”
His only other visit to the country came 10 yeras earlier, to work on a cattle ranch during his gap year. - Sapa-dpa
