He used to rub shoulders with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen in the hit 90s sitcom Full House.
However, while the Olsen twins used the show as a springboard to international stardom, things couldn’t be more different for Blake McIver.
The former child star, who played the Olsens’ frenemy Derek in the popular TV series, plies his trade as a male go-go dancer. Now 28-years-old, McIver said that he started doing erotic dancing to boost his confidence after he revealed he was gay three years ago.
“I had so much shame about my body,” McIver said.
“This was a way to express myself that was safe, sensual and fun.
“I'm not hiding who I am anymore — not pretending I'm something I'm not.”
A singer-songwriter, McIver intially tried vocal coaching in a bid to make ends meet. Dancing, however, proved a more favourable income.
“I found it so liberating and empowering,” McIver explained.
“The tips were good. In fact, I raised so much money I was able to finish my record – mission accomplished.'
McIver has since also landed a role in a new US TV series, The People’s Couch. - Tonight Reporter
