Good news for all the single ladies out there: Ryan Gosling is available.

This week two publications reported that the hunky actor and Eva Mendes are no longer an item. The pair, who seemed to be crazy about each other, and were regularly spotted walking their dog in Los Angeles, are rumoured to have split up over Christmas.

A source told InTouch magazine: “There is no ill will. Neither is rushing out to date other people right now.”

Gosling and Mendes started dating in 2011 when they filmed The Place Beyond The Pines.

A rep for Mendes however, dismissed the report as “just another round of rumors”.

But according to the Daily Mail, they have not been seen together this year, but the problems in their relationship started surfacing much earlier.

“They started having problems back in September,” said the source. “They decided to quietly call it off for good around Christmas.”

At the heart of their troubles was Mendes’ apparent love of the limelight. The 39-year-old actress is the face of Thierry Mugler perfume and is said to love the Hollywood party and glamour scene, while Gosling is more introverted and a homebody.

Another sticking point was the question of settling down and starting a family.

“They knew it was time to take the next step and get married,” a friend of the couple said.

“But neither was sure they wanted that to happen.”

Mendes has in the past stated that she isn’t interested in being a mother.

“I'm certainly not thinking about being a mom,” she said in an interview.

“I can't imagine it. I'm too selfish.”

Gosling, on the other hand, felt differently.

“I'd like to be making babies,” he said.

“But I'm not, so I'm making movies.”

Meanwhile, Mendes caused a stir over the weekend when she was overheard telling officers at LAX Airport that she was pregnant. An eyewitness claims to have overheard her using her alleged pregnancy as a reason not to go through the airport body scanners.

Mendes’ publicist however denied that this was the case.

“Eva never said any such thing to the TSA officers about not wanting to go through the scanner because of a pregnancy,” he said in a statement released on Monday.

“She has never gone through the scanners at the airport,” he continued. “She has always elected to be hand-checked instead.” - Tonight Reporter
