Angelina Jolie will reportedly play her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, in a biopic.
The Oscar-winning actress, who has revealed that she had undergone a voluntary double mastectomy, will star in the film produced by Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B, reports the Daily Mail..
Bertrand was married to Jolie’s father, actor Jon Voight, for nine years before they divorced in 1980.
The actress and producer died of ovarian cancer on January 27, 2007 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre at the age of 56.
Jolie, 37, wrote in The New York Times that she decided to have the operation after learning that she had a “faulty” gene, BRCA1, which “sharply increases my risk of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer”.
“My chances of developing breast cancer have dropped from 87 percent to under five percent,” Jolie wrote in the opinion-page article published on Tuesday. “I can tell my children that they don't need to fear they will lose me to breast cancer.”
Even after the operation, however, Jolie still faces an estimated 50-percent chance of contracting ovarian cancer. Now, Jolie “is also planning to undergo surgery to remove her ovaries”, an operation known as an oophorectomy, according to People. - IOL and Sapa-dpa
