In troubled times, many people turn to religion for solace. Even the Kardashians.

Kourtney Kardashian, for one, has been leafing through the bible at a time when her split from Scott Disick has made headline news around the world.

On June 29, just two days before news of the separation was made public, Kourtney tweeted this mesage: “Reminded that God has a plan much greater than we can imagine. #blessed.”

Then, as the news went viral and fans of the Keeping Up With the Kardashian show started choosing sides, she tweeted:

“There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor? James 4:12”

Religion and the Kardashian lifestyle do not make for the easiest of bedfellows, yet the family’s links to the church go a lot deeper than one might initially presume.

It’s all down to the apparent religious zeal of the momager, Kris Jenner, who in 2009 funded the establishment of the California Community Church. Services were initially conducted at the Sheraton Hotel in in the exclusive Angoura Hills suburb.

Jenner even went so far as to headhunt the preacher. Brad Johnson, who was a disgraced former pastor at the time, forced to resign from his previous position after an adultery scandal. When Jenner tracked him down, he was working in a Starbucks coffee outlet.

Johnson made his KUWTK debut by officiating the marriage of Lamar Odom and Khloé Kardashian. He has since written a book about his journey called ‘How to Forgive Yourself and Others’, which has been promoted by none other than Kim Kardashian.

Kim, perhaps with sex-tape sins to salve, also leads the way in tithes paid to the church by donating 10% of her income. It is an example all congregants are required to follow, although they can also choose the $1000 per month option.

Salvation, apparently, does not come cheap.
