Lamar Odom is falling prey to the same demons that tormented his father.
The NBA star, who is married to Khloe Kardashian, is believed to have separated from his wife amid revelations that he cheated on her and is battling drug addiction.
According to the Daily Mail, Odom revealed that his father Joe was a “heroin addict” during a 2011 episode of the Khloe and Lamar reality TV show. Joe Odom was seldom present in Lamar’s life after his mother passed when when he was just 12-years-old.
Early on in his basketball career, Lamar twice failed violated the NBA’s anti-drug policy and revealed that the spectre of his father’’s drug abuse seemed to be haunting him.
“A lot of times I'd think about it and say, ‘Damn, am I fighting my father's demons with this?’ he said in a 2003 interview, two years after admitting to using marijuana while in Los Angeles playing for The Clippers
“I just couldn't control myself in LA. I look back at it, the lifestyle that I was living and the things I had access to, it could have been something else.
“I was so weak and vulnerable in my life. I was just like, ‘I need to go somewhere and release. I need to feel different.’ There were times where I said, ‘Yo, I gotta go away for two days.’ I would go to practice, then nobody could find me.”
Now the 33-year-old has gone awol again, although representatives for Khloe Kardashian claim to know where he is. Odom allegedly took flight after the Kardashian family attempted to stage an intervention last week and left his marital home.
Khloe, who according to gossip site TMZ is convinced that Lamar has been unfaithful to her, is also reportedly more concerned about saving Lamar than saving her marriage. The couple tied the knot in 2009.
