Michael Douglas’ highly publicised health scare has taken a bizarre turn after the actor revealed he didn’t actually have throat cancer.
The ‘Wall Street’ star made the admission during an interview on the British talk show “This Morning”. The 69-year-old said that the type of cancer he had successfully fought in 2010 was not stage four throat cancer, but actually tongue cancer. Douglas had publicly revealed that he was suffering from throat cancer on the advice from his doctor, who had found a walnut-sized tumour at the base of the star’s tongue. The doctor advised Douglas to keep his tongue cancer a secret and call it throat cancer, claiming that any surgery to remove the growth would have a dramatic impact on his appearance.
“The surgeon said, 'Let's just say it's throat cancer,'“ Douglas said, adding that the doctor told him that if they had to do surgery for tongue cancer “it's not going to be pretty” and that he faced losing part of his jaw and tongue.
Douglas was declared tumour free in 2011, after undergoing a course of aggressive chemotherapy and radiation treatment. He is currently separated from his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, who was reportedly upset after Douglas claimed he had contracted throat cancer from engaging in oral sex. - Tonight Reporter
