As popular Bolly star Shahid Kapoor marks a decade in the industry, he’ll be seen next in Phata Poster Nikhla Hero. In this interview OneIndia.in chats with the star about his career and his latest movie…
It’s been a decade since Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor entered the film industry with his debut film Ishq Vishk. After a 10-year career, Shahid now reveals that he pasted a poster of that first film on a wall in Lokhandwala before its release.
The 32-year-old recalled his memories of his debut movie.
“It was my first time and I just couldn’t sleep. I went out on a drive with one of my friends. I noticed labourers were putting up the posters of my film Ishq Vishk on the walls of Lokhandwala,” Shahid said, adding that he joined the workers and posted a poster of his first movie.
“I got out of my car and asked if I can paste one of the pictures. Obviously, no one recognised me. I pasted the Ishq Vishk posters.
“It really felt good to see my posters around the city,” the actor said.
Later he won a Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut for Ishq Vishk.
Shahid, who has seen the ups and downs of the industry, is now looking forward to his next release titled Phata Poster Nikhla Hero.
In this movie, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, he plays a Salman Khan fan.
The romantic comedy also stars Ileana D’Cruz in the lead role.
Phata Poster Nikla Hero is a fully fledged masala (traditional) entertainer with elements of romance and action.
The film follows the story of Vishwas Rao, an aspiring actor mistaken as a super cop.
Film-maker Santoshi, who has worked with Kapoor for the first time in Phata Poster Nikhla Hero, says this film will be a huge new break for the actor.
Kapoor, who has been a part of hit films like Ishq Vishk, Vivah, Jab We Met and Kaminey, has been lying low due to movies like Milenge Milenge, Mausam and Teri Meri Kahaani that didn’t fare so well at the box office.
However, Santoshi believes Phata Poster Nikhla Hero will be his new success.
“Unfortunately, his previous films may not have worked, but he is a wonderful actor and is very hard-working. He has done a good job in the film. I think Shahid will be successful with this film.”
Talking about the casting for the film, the director added: “Initially we finalised Shahid for the film. I’ve never worked with him before, but I have really appreciated his work. I thought this is one film which he has not done before. It is full of comedy.”
Phata Poster Nikhla Hero also features Ileana D’Cruz in the lead role. She made her Bollywood debut in Barfi!
“As far as Ileana is concerned, I really liked her work in the film. I thought it would be a fresh casting,” said Santoshi.
Kapoor is excited about the action sequences in Phata Poster Nikla Hero and Rambo Rajkumar.
This type of action film is a first of its kind for the 31-year-old.
“If people enjoy it in the film, I will be happy because it is the first time I am doing this kind of action.
“There is more coming in Rambo Rajkumar.
“ So both the films will have a lot of action and I am excited,” he said.
Kapoor revealed that D’Cruz will also be doing a few stunts: “She was very nervous when we were doing stunts because she says her skin is sensitive and it gets bruised easily.
“She was very paranoid about that,” he said, adding, “but we did a few rehearsals.
“Ileana was a little uncomfortable and we tried our best to make her comfortable.”
Phata Poster Nikla Hero opened at local cinemas on Friday.
Rambo Rajkumar, directed by Prabhu Deva, is expected to hit theatres on November 29. – oneindia.in
