Home Run

**

All-star baseball player plus alcohol addiction doesn’t work in real-life of film.

FILM: Cory Brand (Scott Elrod) is the star hitter for a major league baseball team who’s haunted by memories from the past. This drives him to alcohol, which fuels his fiery temper.

As his agent, Helene (Vivica A Fox), tries to put out the fires in his professional life, Cory continues to spiral downwards until he is forced into rehab in the town where he grew up.

As part of his agent’s plan to boost his image, Cory starts coaching a little league team.

As the movie progresses, Cory grows closer to the kids on the team as well as an old love interest (Dorian Brown).

Although this movie has a decent message and good intentions, it is executed poorly. Over-acting and poor direction mar what is an uplifting story, and makes it incredibly hard to get into the film. The serious nature of substance abuse is brought to the fore, but is diluted somewhat by the poor acting.

SPECIAL FEATURES: Introduction by Brett Butler and Ben Zobrist and two features entitled Around the Bases and Freedom is Possible. There is also an insert of baseball superstars praising the movie. – Matthew Jordaan
