Even Statham fans will scratch their heads
FILM: The best part about this entire film is when Jennifer Lopez scopes out Jason Statham’s shapely behind. It neatly subverts the B-grade action genre, but then the effort is wasted as the film slips back into cliché and badly scripted mayhem.
Statham makes a living out of playing action characters who live by a code or principle, so we know what to expect when the film opens with his character being double-crossed by a gang of robbers.
Cue blazing guns, stolen cars and arb characters crawling out of the woodwork to beat up our stoic Stath. He bleeds a lot, but keeps on going, because that’s what he does, but it’s all so megh.
The plot is unnecessarily convoluted though still very predictable and everything looks cheap, which is funny since the film is supposedly set in a very expensive part of Palm Beach.
SPECIAL FEATURES: None, which is unfair since other region releases contain commentary from the director and features on the character and the making of the film. – Theresa Smith
