Lady and the Vamp soon to part ways

While most Twilight fans drool over either Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart or Taylor Lautner, there is an army of fans who would lay down their lives for Ashley Greene.

You can’t be considered a fan of the franchise if you don’t know who Greene is, but we will get you up to speed.

She stars as clairvoyant vampire Alice Cullen, the sister of lead character and bloodsucker Edward Cullen (Pattinson), and while he dominates the screen time, when it’s Alice’s turn, she shines so brightly you simply cannot forget her.

Being a favourite of mine, it was music to my ears to hear that of all the cast members, Ashley Greene would be in South Africa to promote the final film of the saga, Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2.

“The people here are so warm. Everywhere I go everyone is so nice. It is as if they sent their best people over,” she said with a smile.

Apart from the warm welcome she received, Greene also revealed that her experience of South Africa had been so incredible she could not wait to come back.

“I first went to a safari which I thought was amazing because there was a lot of land which I don’t get in the city. I like that it’s a big city, but also there is a lot of land. The air is clean and crisp here – a thing you do not find in LA,” she said.

The actress then changed the subject to how the Twilight franchise had changed her life.

“It kind of took me from working in a restaurant to having a career and a fan base which I would like to think of as an incredible community around me,” she said.

“It is a once-in-a-lifetime thing that I think has changed everything about my life. Not every actress gets the kind of support I get from my fans so I am aware of how lucky I am,” she explained.

If you watched the first Twilight movie and, like me, enjoyed it, but did not think the franchise would develop this far, you will be happy to know that even Greene thought it would just be another movie.

“I don’t think anyone expected it to turn into what it did because there isn’t any way to ever tell how something like this comes by,” she said.

“Same thing with the Harry Potter or The Lord of the Rings; if it clicks it just clicks and sometimes, if you are lucky enough to be a part of that thing, you just have to live in the moment and enjoy it.”

But with that success comes fame which has its pitfalls. Greene has had a brush with that unfortunate side of being a successful celebrity.

“There are points that have been hard and it is a learning curve. Everyone needs to know that there is no textbook on how to react when your life changes, so you just kind of have to go with the flow,” she said.

After spending hours on end on set shooting any one of the Twilight films, Greene doesn’t want to watch any of them, at least not with her friends, family or public at any premiere.

“I don’t really like watching films that I do, it is just really weird. I feel like you should, and you learn things, but it is uncomfortable to see yourself on a screen, especially when you are around people.

“I think I would be more comfortable if I watched by myself. But generally when I do watch it is at a premiere with 12 of my friends and family and it can get embarrassing,” she said.

One thing the fans do not know about Greene is that she is athletic and insists on doing all her own stunts. As fragile as she looks, she wants to do as many of the dangerous scenes as possible in order to challenge herself.

“I did all my stunts, basically. There is a stunt they didn’t allow us to do, as they thought it was difficult or dangerous, but I fought to do all my stunts. I did martial arts when I was younger and it is kind of like riding a bike, so it comes back to you,” she explained.
