LOVE is everywhere. It is here and in the unseen worlds. The thought of love itself is beautiful and Selvaraghavan’s Irandam Ulagam takes it to the next level. But let me warn you: it is an esoteric work that could be a trap for the regular audience. Having said that, it has visuals that will enchant you.

Irandam Ulagam has two separate worlds and is about the stories that unfold in a parallel universe. Ramya (Anusha Shetty) is drawn to Madhu Balakrishnan (Arya), but he initially refuses her offer of marriage.

But in the dream world, Madhu tries to woo Ramya. The story jumps between the love story of dream world and the tale set here, the place where we are living.

After turning down Ramya’s offer, Madhu falls in love with her and proposes, but she rejects his offer, saying she has found another man.

How he tries to win her heart forms the crux of their story.

In the other world, Madhu struggles to impress Ramya, who is a tough woman.

There is also a plot of two clans fighting over Amma (mother love). The story takes an interesting turn when Arya, on Earth, meets the people of the other world.

Selvaraghavan has given a symbolic touch to the story and there are times when you battle to understand this film.

Scene after scene, the director comes up with visuals of an international standards, but what the movie lacks is the element that keeps you entertained until the end.

Irandam Ulagam appears dull sans the necessary commercial elements. However, the story set in an imaginary world is impressive in the first half.

With the director giving a shocking twist by the end of first half, the lost attention of audience returns with new hope to watch the proceedings in the second half, which is better as the entire story is set in the imaginary world.

However, when we consider the movie as a whole, Selvaraghavan could have churned out a tighter screenplay, as the plot doesn’t generate much interest.

His concept is nothing short of brilliant, but somewhere he has failed to bring his imagination to the screen.

The screenplay doesn’t make complete sense and raises questions over illogical scenes.

Arya looks good in his costumes. Anushka Shetty looks wonderful in the action sequences.

Harris Jayaraj has teamed up with Selvaraghavan for the first time and the result is just brilliant. En kaadhal thee, Mannavane en mannavaney, Vinnaithaandi anbe vandhai and Panangkalla veshamulla are all good songs. Anirudh Ravichander’s background score is average.

Full marks for the film’s technical brilliance. But the decision to watch Irandam Ulagam lies between whether you love watching abstruse movies or entertainment flicks. If you love to see the former, don’t miss it. – oneindia.in
