Film submissions are now open for the seventh annual South African Horrorfest.

South Africa, and indeed Africa’s only Horror Film Festival will take place from October to November this year in Cape Town.

Goths, punks, scary people and those of us who just like scary movies crawl out of the woodwork around Halloween and turn the Labia on Orange into our own little playground.

But, we need the film-makers to show us the stuff, so if you’re into horror films, submit your feature films and short films to www.horrorfest.info so we, too, can be as scared as you when you made it.

Last year saw the launch of a short story competition and this year it will again be part of the event, plus the usual live movie soundtrack to a classic silent horror movie by the Makabra Ensemble, Halloween dress-up and more.

Organisers are also looking at re-launching the dark art and photography exhibition this year.

All info at the submission tab on www.horrorfest.info

In addition the second Celludroid Sci-Fi/Anime/Fantasy Film Festival will take place in mid-July. The exact date will be confirmed once they have confirmed a visiting director. Again, check www.celludroid.net if you want to submit a film.

The fourth X Fest Extreme/Cult/ Underground Film Festival will take place from August to September this year. Watch www.xfest.org for further dates.

No entry fees are charged for the movie submissions and the websites will warn you when the closing dates for submissions loom.

If you want to know what the organisers do in their spare time, check out http://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=lDiRabFQXvg to watch their Terminatryx music video for the short film Marked.

Check www.flame.drop/events for more information on alternative film festivals.
