One of the anticipated Valentine’s Day releases this week is Murder 3, starring Randeep Hooda, Aditi Rao Hydari and Sara Loren. Bollywood Hungama reports.

HAVING acquired the official rights to the 2011 Spanish film La Cara Oculta, directed by Andres Baiz, Fox Star Studios and Vishesh Films are ready to wow audiences with coming-of-age questions that few dare to ask with their release Murder 3.

Vijay Singh, chief executive of Fox Star Studios, said: “At Fox we have access to great stories from around the world. We’re always evaluating which ones can be adapted for Indian audiences.

“Having identified La Cara Oculta it was natural for us to leverage our long-standing relations with Vishesh Films and their strong creative sensibilities to adapt it for Indian audiences. Once Bhatt Saab saw this film, he strongly felt it would be the best fit to take the Murder brand forward and so Murder 3 was born.”

Marking the directorial debut of producer Mukesh Bhatt’s son, Vishesh, Murder 3 tells of the unravelling of a mysterious disappearance.

Producer Mahesh Bhatt said: “Murder 3 is the 2013 equivalent of the controversial film Arth (1983) in the thriller genre. Then it was the institution of marriage that was deconstructed. Now 30 years later Murder 3 deconstructs love and questions its very existence in today’s world of relationship crimes.”

Director Vishesh Bhatt adds: “Murder 3 shows the women of today. The tagline is ‘This Valentine’s love will be murdered’ and it is exactly what you can expect from the film. It’s unconventional, it’s shocking, it questions your beliefs.”

Meanwhile, one has to give it to the Bhatts for spotting new talent. After featuring Mallika Sherawat and Jacqueline Fernandez in the earlier Murder films, the Bhatts are to introduce a new hottie – a Pakistani beauty, Mona Lizza (screen name Sara Loren).

For those not in the know, Lizza made her “official debut” in Pooja Bhatt’s Kajra Re a few years ago. Reports have it that Lizza was chosen because the Bhatts saw her potential to heat up the screen with her sex appeal and they’re confident she will make the same impact as Sherawat and Fernandez did.

With the anti-Pakistan mood having taken its toll on Bollywood – singer-actor Ali Zafar was not allowed to perform at a concert, putting a question mark over future collaborations between Bollywood and Pakistani artists – questions arose over Loren’s role in Murder 3.

It was rumoured that there would be protests over Loren’s presence in India, but Mukesh Bhatt was unfazed, saying: “First of all, Sara Loren is not a Pakistani. She holds Dubai citizenship. And even if an artist working in our film is Pakistani, I see no harm in that. Why are we mixing politics, cinema and culture? What happened with Ali Zafar was unfortunate.

“These are artists. Let them be. It doesn’t matter which side of the border they are from. They have nothing to do with the politics of the two nations.

“As cultural ambassadors it is our duty to make artists and sports people from any part of the world feel safe and comfortable in our country, no matter what their nationality and what the politics of the country they belong to.

“Murder 3 is an important film for our banner. It launches my son as a director. We selected Sara because she suited the part. Her nationality has nothing to do with her being in the film. Let’s not look suspiciously at an individual just because they’re from a particular country. It’s time we grew up.”

According to the plot synopsis for Murder 3, hot-shot photographer Vikram (Randeep Hooda) gets into a relationship with waitress Nisha (Loren). She moves into his palatial home. The old-world house is as beautiful as it is scary. It holds many secrets Nisha is soon to unearth – about the life of the man who made it and about Vikram, who is dealing with the mysterious disappearance of his former girlfriend Roshni (Rao).

This film not only marks the directorial debut of Vishesh Bhatt, but will see Hooda as the leading man, instead of Murder’s permanent fixture and the Bhatts’ blue-eyed boy, Emraan Hashmi. Murder 3 is to be looked forward to.
