Kaaki Sattai follows a policeman as he tries to solve an important mystery case, knowing that the satisfaction he will derive from solving it will prove that he is a good cop.

Many high-profile people, including politicians and important businessmen, are linked to the case. So, by stepping in to solve the case, he will also be stepping on many toes. However, he is prepared to overcome a variety of obstacles to show that justice can be served.

Cast performance: Siva Karthikeyan exhibits a major shift from boy-next-door to a cop in this film. He has mastered the method of showing emotions and expresses himself well as a comical and powerful policeman.

Sri Divya, unlike other heroines, gets a chance to show her acting skills and does really well, although she still needs to work on her body language. Prabhu proves his worth yet again. Although he appeares only in one fourth of the movie, he does leave his mark.Vijay Raaz, whom we remember more as a comedian in Hindi films, shows a completely different side as the antagonist. He is portrayed a ruthless villain and makes sure that people forget him as a comedian.

A special mention must be made of the Imman Annachi, Manobala, Mayilsamy and Siricha Pochu comedy team for complementing the movie effectively.

Direction and screenplay: The storyline is predictable, yet director Durai Senthilkumar has ensured that his audience is well entertained from start to finish.

Starting with comedy and gearing up with a social cause has become a successful formula for this director. This well-handled screenplay will surely carry the movie into mass commercial hit territory.

Technical aspects: Anirudh’s music will add to his list of hit movies in his career. The songs have already spread like wild fire since the film’s release.

Cinematographer Sukumar’s lens captured the fine locales for the songs in a colourful manner and portrayed the hero in the right angles to deliver a crisp tone throughout the movie.

On the choreography front, Sherif has fine- tuned the steps of Siva Karthikeyan who has come a long way from his Manak Koththi Paravai days. Sri Divya does outperform him in some places, but he manages to deliver his best as well.

On the dialogue front, apart from contributing to the screenplay, the ace dialogue writer has penned some sharp one-liners. Siva has mouthed them to perfection with the proper emotions.

Durai Senthilkumar has woven together a neat commercial flickr, with a small knot in the screenplay. Had it been delivered by someone else, the movie might not have looked so good because of the repetitiveness in the narration. But, Siva as a cop has brought in his own style and played well to his limitations to ensure that the movie is beyond watchable.

However, although the movie is engaging for most part, it takes the same old route that has been travelled many times by the yesteryear “mass” heroes of Kollywood. Yes, it does offers rib-tickling humour and takes us to some never-before-seen locales, but in the end, it makes us feel that we have not tasted anything new. That said, the team has delivered one more mass winner here. – www.indiaglitz.com
