KOMBAN

DIRECTOR: M Muthaiyah

CAST: Karthi, Lakshmi Menon, Rajkiran, Karunas, Kovai Sarala and Thambi Ramaiyah

CLASSIFICATION: TBA

RUNNING TIME: 121 minutes

RATING: **

Karthi plays a roughie who takes pleasure in shooing away thugs and those who aim at disrupting peace in his locality. In other words, he is that hero who fights against wrongdoers and inspires others to do the same.

Meanwhile, he marries Lakshmi Menon and develops a healthy bond with her father, played by Rajkiran, after initially disliking him. At one point he gets violent enough to injure his father-in-law and later repents and understands the value of a father figure.

While going about his business, Karthi unexpectedly and unfortunately runs into a terrifying villain, played by Super Subbarayan. Things change dramatically when Karthi starts a war of sorts.

What are the consequences and losses incurred while engaging in a battle between good and the evil? Where and how the movie end forms the remainder of the story which is narrated in an intriguing fashion.

Performances: Packed with a wonderful star cast, Komban delivers when it comes to the artists’ performances. All the leads have done justice to their characters.

Karthi’s almost perfect dialogue delivery, Menon’s powerful performance, Rajkiran’s screen presence and Kovai Sarala’s ability to pull off comical and emotional scenes all stand out.

Subbarayan impresses with his silent yet brawny reactions and is a decent villain.

Technicalities: Engaging screenplay and fascinating narration by M Muthaiah, a smart bit of editing by Praveen KL and brilliant camerawork by Velraj make Komban technically strong. Though the plot of the movie is not new to Tamil cinema, the way it is put across with the right mix of comedy, action, values of relationships and sentiments work wonders for Komban.

While only a few songs make you to tap your feet, the background score by GV Prakash is not praiseworthy which comes as a surprise from an established music composer.

In spite of making the movie interesting, one might feel the editor could’ve chopped a few scenes as two hours and 40 minutes might test the audiences’ patience just a bit.

Overall view: Packed with all the elements required for commercial success, Komban delivers the goods. – OneIndia.in
