The S&M themed bodice-ripping yarn Fifty Shades of Grey has gotten millions of people hot under the collar. Pity about the actors then.
That’s because Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, the stars who will be acting out this steamy fantasy in the film adaptation of El James’ hugely successful series of novels, seem rather non-plussed by the risque nature of their scenes.
In an interview with The Today Show, the actors described their sex scenes as “more of a task” than anything approaching the titillation fans of the series are hoping for.
“It's not, like, a romantic situation,” said 24-year-old Johnson, the daughter of actors Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith.
“It's more, like, technical and choreographed and less ... it's more of a task.”
This crushing appraisal of her co-star’s boudoir abilities elicited a heavy sigh from Dornan.
But while he was keen to stress that he and Johnson shared a great chemistry while filming, his description of their more intimate moments left a lot to be desired.
“That's a big part of it ... having trust,” he said.
“Because, you know, we got ourselves into situations that don't feel that sort of natural and they're not that easy and you need to have the trust there.”
So much for heaving bosoms and sexy restraints.
The trailer for the film only hints at the kinky exploits on offer, and both actors were keen to stress that the more explicit content had been edited out to allow it to be aired on TV.
