GENERATOR REX

FILM: THE fate of the world is once again in the hands of a rebellious, moody individual – this time it’s a 15-year-old amnesiac, Rex.

Generator Rex is a kick-ass Cartoon Network series created by Man of Action – the very creators of Ben 10. So, if your kid hasn’t got wind of this by now, be sure to factor in some time to research as much as you can about this latest kids’ craze.

You’ll end up buying more than the DVD for the little ones. Pyjamas, duvet covers and T-shirts are sure to follow.

The DVD has no extra features and is just a list of Generator Rex episodes. There are two DVD volumes, so be sure you get both before offspring starts screaming.

Generator Rex is set in a not too distant future and, of course, the world is in peril.

A massive explosion has released concentrations of nanites into the atmosphere, infecting almost every living thing on Earth. These nanites randomly activate inside their hosts, mutating the subject into a monster known as an EVO. (Exponentially Variegated Organism).

Though some EVOs retain some human-level intelligence, most go berserk and cause widespread destruction.

An international organisation known as Providence is out to combat the EVO threat.

And Rex is Providence’s biggest weapon. He is able to, um, generate mech- anical do-dahs (called builds) and smash EVOs.

The series has a great script, entertaining action and if you don’t want your child to mutate into an EVO, getting the DVD (Volume 1 and 2) would be the sensible thing to do.

And oh, parents might want to brace themselves for the coming Ben 10/Generator Rex crossover special.

Special features: None. Note the PG restriction for the violence though. – Sergio Ben
