Way To Start.
Ariana Grande is perhaps where Ciara was when she released her Goodies album. She was just starting out and there was a lot of promise. Honeymoon Avenue is a very good effort targeted perhaps at young cheerleaders starting out in romantic relationships. Things that mean much to youngsters, such as being famous, are covered in Popular Song, which could be an anthem for The Plastics from the Mean Girls movie.
Still on young people’s love, The Way, which features rapper Mac Miller, is a club hit in the making. Grande shows off her vocal abilities on this track, which will remind you of a young Mariah Carey. The young singer also ropes in rapper Big Sean on Right There, which you could mistake for a Jermaine Dupri joint.
Since I keep calling her young, she must have tried to prove a point on Tattooed Heart, which borrows from the classic Motown sound. And she does prove her point.
Think of Honeymoon Avenue as targeted at the 16-25 female market, while the older women may get a track or two to interest them. – Munya Vomo
