CD review: Bruno Mars

Bruno Mars
Unorthodox Jukebox

An exceptional album demonstrating Bruno Mars’ true depth as an artist.

JUST a few years ago, Bruno Mars (Peter Gene Hernandez) was seen as the new kid on the block. And three years later, he has grown into a highly successful and sought-after musician, and it’s no surprise why.

The 28-year-old American singer-songwriter and record producer is a familiar nominee at the Grammy Awards. In 2011, he walked away with the award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for Just the Way You Are.

Now, with his second studio album, Unorthodox Jukebox, Mars does not hold back. In fact, his music is better.

The entire album is amazing and his songwriting abilities are even more impressive. He has written all the tracks on this album, and it’s evident that Mars is very talented.

Standouts are Gorilla (which features Slumdog Millionaire actress Freida Pinto in the video), Treasure, Locked out of Heaven and When I Was Your Man.

The great thing about Mars is that he is as talented a live performer as a recording artist.

Demonstrating powerful vocals on stage, he gives it his heart and soul and should be commended as a true artist.

This album is a must-have. – Valencia Govindasamy
