Looking 4 Myself

Keep Searching.

Someone should shoot David Guetta. Ever since the success of his and Kelly Rowland’s When Love Takes Over, every R&B star does nothing else but that European dance club music. While there is nothing wrong with the actual sound itself, this trend is killing original R&B.

Of course Usher has nothing to prove, but then again he has fans to satisfy and songs like Can’t Stop Won’t Stop should be stopped. He should work on creating songs like Yeah or U Turn if he is looking for a club hit.

However, all is not lost as the man slows things down on tracks like Lessons for the Lover, Dive and Climax. In the latter especially, you glean something of what he may have been going through when the idea for the song was conceived. You can tell that although he has dealt with the issues, some of the hurt remains.

Feel-good songs like Show Me is Usher getting back to the basics, showing why he has been so successful. The song dares a girl to prove her love to her man the way she knows best.

The title track Looking for Myself is an upbeat, catchy tune that drips with cheesy lines from start to end. It is the kind of song that will make you smile on a cloudy day.

All in all it is a great effort but a long way from Usher’s heyday. – Munyaradzi Vomo
