Midnight Memories

****

An upbeat, catchy compilation by one of the world’s biggest boy bands.

IT’S amazing what television music com- petitions can do for your career as aspiring singers hoping to make it big in the industry.

Let’s look at The X-Factor UK for instance and the enormous platform it created for English-Irish boy band, One Direction. And even though the guys did not walk away with the title of the X Factor winner, it’s clear that they have attracted a huge fan base with girls going crazy with 1D hysteria.

Now with their third studio album, Midnight Memories, the boys are giving their fans exactly what they’re looking for. The 14-track compilation features some of their major hits like Best Song Ever and Story of My Life which did extremely well on the charts. Those singles are quite hypnotic as well.

Other tracks that stand out are Midnight Memories, You & I, Little White Lies and Diana. The tracks range from soft acoustic to more electric and upbeat tunes. Lyrically, 1D focus on themes surrounding young love, heartbreak and staying out late which are typical teenage situations which is probably one of the reasons why teens relate so well to the band.

Overall, the album has some catchy and feel-good tracks. They prove that they are much more than just another poppy boy band. – Valencia Govindasamy
