WITH our summer solstice falling on Saturday, party goers can enjoy the longest day of the year by partying the hours away with Castle Lite’s Extra Cold Summer Experience’s headlining act, US rapper, Wale.
The nine-hour outdoor event will take place in Durban and Cape Town on the same day with both cities offering a killer line-up.
Going down at the Wavehouse in Durban, Wale will be joined by some of South Africa’s hottest talent such as DJ Milkshake, Big Nuz, Zakes Bantwini and Dreamteam, to name a few. And as for the Mother City, you can catch DJ Kent, DJ Milkshake, Jimmy Nevis, Khuli Chana, AKA and more at the Hillcrest Quarry.
Tonight caught up with 5FM’s DJ Milkshake (pictured) who will be playing both venues. He is enthusiastic as he tells me his reasons for playing at this summer event: “It’s an amazing opportunity to be associated with an event as huge as this. Castle Lite is a leading brand and I see myself as a leading DJ so it makes sense to align myself with such a top brand in the entertainment circle.
“Also, it’s definitely one of the biggest events for the summer and to be in the line up of both international and South African acts is always great.”
And what’s interesting is Milkshake considers himself an undying fan of Wale. He recently attended one of the rapper’s concert in the US and reveals: “It’s quite incredible that I saw him at his concert and six months later get to play with the same artist I went to watch. And I’ll get to meet him. It’s more than amazing. It’s surreal, actually.”
Describing his style of DJing, Milkshake says it’s definitely “energetic, party-rocking, booty-shaking” mixes that will have you shaking and moving all day long: “More than anything, I look at myself as an entertainer instead of a DJ. It’s important to entertain instead of just sticking to one genre. So for me, it’s about entertaining and everything else comes after that.
“I really think my goal is to be as big as I can be in terms of what I do and to be the best entertainer and DJ out there.
“I want to grow my name because I don’t necessarily do it for fame, I want to entertain as many people as I possibly can, that’s what gratifies me. It’s about seeing people having a good time, smiling and dancing.”
Besides the awesome performers at this summer party, there will also be ice- cold refreshment zones, snow storms and more to capture the essence of summer.
