GIG OF THE WEEK

The Welcome Us Tour, live

Live – The Venue

(Tonight)

IF you’re into Afrikaans and English rock music, be sure not to miss out on the killer line-up at Live – The Venue. Tonight you can catch Afrikaans rock band ShutUp! It’s Sunday on The Welcome Us Tour, along with supporting acts Avade and Scarlet Hill.

ShutUp! It’s Sunday is a five-piece with a female lead singer. They have been defining their sound for eight years before finally coming to prominence in October 2011. They have been working on their debut album – produced by Jacques du Plessis – for the past year, and it will be released in the coming month.

The band formed a short while after being nominated for a South African Music Award (Sama) for Best Afrikaans Rock Album (as Countdown to the Red Carpet), whereafter they discovered their true genre and feel. They have shared the stage with Straatligkinders, Heuwels Fantasties, The Parlotones, Foto Na Dans, Fokofpolisiekar and aKing to name a few, which has helped them build vast live experience.

According to the band, “Perform arrogant, live humble” is a lesson dearly learnt and is now the one thing they strive for and the main ingredient they like to call life as musicians: “We offer a matured sound that appeals to international crowds, which is exactly what we are aiming for.”

ShutUp! It’s Sunday landed major sponsors recently such as Music Connection, Rock Star Threads Clothing, Yesterday clothing and KWV Wines. The band is also signed to the Next music record label, under which their debut album will launch next month nationally and internationally. – Tonight Reporter
