Jerry Kunene
Bertoua Café Lounge (Tomorrow)
KZN’s Old Lion of Jazz, Jerry Kunene, with his quartet featuring Melvin Peters, will be playing it the way it’s supposed to be played at Bertoua Café Lounge tomorrow.
Saxophonist Kunene began his music career in the 1950s. His group, Jerry’s Sextet (formed in the 1960s), changed their name to Jerry and His Men when its membership grew.
Kunene has played with a number of local and famous musicians and has travelled all over the world with different groups. Artists whom he has collaborated with include Mbongeni Ngema, Brian Thusi, Dudley Dlamini, Jonathan Ngema, Theo Bophela, James Mbambo and Clarence Khumalo.
The performance tomorrow is part of the regular Thursday, Saturday and Sunday Serious Jazz Sessions at Bertoua (221A Musgrave Centre, 115 Musgrave Road). – Tonight Reporter
