GIG OF THE WEEK:

DECEMBER STREETS

Live – The Venue (tomorrow)

IF you’re in the mood for some epic rock this weekend, be sure to catch the self-described “foot-stomping, skirt-lifting, shoulder-popping” Pretoria band, December Streets.

They’ve been playing together since 2009 and comprise Tristan Coetzee (vocals, guitar), Gideon Meyer (bass, saxophone), Nico

van Loggerenberg (lead guitar), Corneil Clasen (drums) and Waldo Boshoff (trumpet).

According to the band’s Facebook page, their style varies, but the catchy beat-lyric combos in their tracks like Fire Through the Window and Who Needs Shoes? are their trademark.

Their EP, simply titled EP and released in 2011, featured the two tracks mentioned above, which both reached the No 1 position on the TuksFM Most Wanted and SA Top 10 charts.

More radio hits followed, with My Name taking the No 1 spot on the 5FM Rock Chart and peaking

at No 16 on the 5FM Top 40.

In 2012, December Streets recorded their debut album,

This Is, with 2 Feet Music, which is a division of Sheer Sound.

The band says the 15 tracks

are inspired by all the wonderful experiences and good vibes that can be experienced in this country.

Their gig at Live – The Venue tomorrow includes support performances by Catlike Thieves and Shout Hey!

Don’t miss December Streets

at Live – The Venue tomorrow at 8pm. R60. For more information call 084 510 3107.
