GIG OF THE WEEK

Ramfest

The Wavehouse |(Tonight)

PARTYgoers can expect an awesome weekend as RAMfest is here – South Africa’s biggest annual alternative music festival.

There is also an exciting line-up of headlining international bands for the main Durban concert, such as Rise Against (US) and British metal core band Bring Me the Horizon. South African bands

that will perform include Pestroy and Durban’s Lowprofile.

Rise Against hail from Chicago, Illinois. Their first two albums, The Unravelling (2001) and Revolutions per Minute (2003),

met with considerable underground success. Their major label debut, Siren Song of the Counter Culture, brought them mainstream success and resulted in several successful singles.

Formed in Sheffield in 2004, Bring Me the Horizon have won three Kerrang Awards, one in 2007 for Best British Newcomer, the second in 2011 for Best Album (There is a Hell...), and last year for Best British Video (Alligator Blood). They were officially the biggest band on MySpace UK in 2011. They have more than 3.4 million fans on Facebook, and more than 50 million UK and European views on YouTube of their videos.

Lowprofile have toured four South African provinces, played to thousands at major festivals and opened for the likes of Sum 41. Last year was a productive one for the band, with the launch of an album, two music videos, TV appearances, print and radio interviews, shows, and a signature skateboard through Gunslinger Longboards.

This year, they have released a video for the song Apathetic Means which was viewed more than 4 400 times in its first week on YouTube. – Tonight Reporter
