GIG OF THE WEEK

Natalie Chapman’s #90Days2015 tour

Various venues

WITH 180 shows in 90 days in 90 towns around the town, singer Natalie Chapman brings her #90Days2015 tour to KZN this weekend.

The tour focuses on giving a voice to survivors of violent and sexual crimes. Chapman performs throughout KZN this weekend with gigs taking place next week as well including performances at Umthunzi Hotel in Umtentweni and Rock Music Bistro in Umzumbe.

Explaining the significance behind the tour, she says: “I’m attempting to perform 180 performances in 90 consecutive days in 90 towns in South Africa and Lesotho. My objective is to reach one person at each event to either encourage survivors to speak out about their experiences in order to find healing and also to motivate and mobilise everyday Africans to get involved in helping women, men and children who have suffered an ordeal.”

All expenses are paid for from the revenue earned from the paid performances and all profits go to the Epic Foundation and others around South Africa.

In terms of her KZN shows, Chapman says: “I use the songs and storytelling to bring across a message of hope, not only for survivors, but for those around them. Music has the power to break boundaries and touch on subjects that are usually very awkward for people. This is an opportunity for self-honesty in a safe environment.
