GIG OF THE WEEK

The Goulcester Blues Project

The Jazzy Rainbow (tonight)

IF you’re in the mood for a bit of traditional blues mixed with contemporary rock and roll, then catch the The Goulcester Blues Project at the Jazzy Rainbow tonight.

On the band’s website, it states that they formed in mid-2005 when they exceeded their humble beginnings as a temporary side project and progressed to worthy recognition in and around their home town of Pietermaritzburg.

Appearing on stages across KZN, the guys developed a loyal following as well as a unique sound. Their site further states that their influences are many, including early blues pioneers like Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson, electric guitar gods, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix, and more rock-based outfits like Led Zeppelin and AC/DC. The band have represented the blues at Splashy Fen, the International Blues Festival in Durban, the Royal Show in Pietermaritzburg and a tour to Maun in Botswana entitled the Rockavango Blues Tour as well as at a host of smaller venues across the province.

The Goulcester Blues Project have enjoyed performing live with the likes of Dan Patlansky, Southern Gypsy Queen and Josie Field.
