GIG OF THE WEEK

Tshepo Mngoma

KZNSA gallery (Sunday)

AWARD-winning jazz violinist, Tshepo Mngoma, will grace KZN stages this weekend, starting with his first performance tonight at

the KZNSA Gallery.

Then, on Sunday, he will play at Blue Ice Lifestyle Lifestyle (Thuthuka) in Cato Ridge.

Following the release of his South African Music Award-winning debut album, People and Places, released in June 2009, Mngoma again shared his

musical gift with the album The Journey, which was released in February.

Now, his journey leads him to KwaZulu-Natal as part of the Concerts SA programme.

As such, he will also perform at a primary school in Cato Ridge.

A press release states that Mngoma’s The Journey draws its influence from some of the musician’s accomplishments and is evicence of his musical growth and experience.

He has toured internationally and across South Africa with the legendary Hugh Masekela, either in the musical, Songs of Migration, or on Hugh and Friends along with Songstress Thandiswa Mazwai and Lesotho-born Tshepo Tsola.

Mngoma has also flourished as a musical director, having landed the responsibility of managing director in the South African version of the internationally acclaimed production of the musical DreamGirls and the 2011 South African Sports Awards staged at the Sun City Superbowl in August 2011.

The performances in KZN are sponsored by Concerts SA and produced by iSupport Music Business.

• Catch Tshepo Mngoma at the KZNSA Gallery tonight at 6pm. R60. Book at 031 201 9969.

On Sunday, he plays at Blue Ice Lifestyle (Thuthuka), Ehlanzeni, Number 8, Nagle Dam, Cato Ridge at 2pm. R20. Book at 031 7111524.
