NEWS photographers were not allowed to take pictures of US rap star Eminem performing at the Cape Town Stadium last night, a practice condemned by the SA National Editors’ Forum (Sanef).
Photographers and video media were allowed to record opening acts Jack Parow and US rapper Action Bronson, but were taken to a room where their equipment was stored until after Eminem’s performance.
The deputy chairman of Sanef’s media freedom committee, Raymond Louw, said the forum was against the ban.
“We believe it is an invasion of the freedom of the press. This is an attempt by the concert organisers to present the best possible picture of the event. This practice has occurred in the past and we have protested against it. We find it happening especially with big organisations banning photographers and we are opposed to it,” Louw said.
Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers III, performed for the first time in Africa when he kicked off the South African leg of his Rapture Tour in Cape Town.
