So, EDM freaks and 5FM listeners, just who is Chi Chi Algora? Could he be the next Roger Goode?
This masked cat/man/DJ type thang is billed as one of the most exciting, crazy, young DJ/producer/ dance artists of the nano-second. And in keeping with this, Chi Chi Algora has a legion of fans. His bio claims that he has two birth mothers – Kyle Alexander and Mossimo Ngwenya who were both inspired by “the Zulus’ thunderous bass, the electrifying European guitar and the sweet Asian flute”.
Having said that, Chi Chi Algora admits with pride that he is “vicariously from all nine provinces”. Next weekend he plays Splashy Fen for the first time where he will perform on the Ground Zero on Tour stage. We cornered him in the back of a nightclub in deepest, darkest club land to find out more about what to expect from this dance enigma at the festival.
Does Chi Chi Algora like daylight or does he prefer to come out in the bright lights of the dance floor only? I prefer to come out in the bright lights the dance floor. I come alive at night, bringing the bass and a feeling of euphoria to the dance floor.
What has Chi Chi Algora heard about this beautiful festival set below the majestic Drakensberg? Only awesome things from friends and people who have been going there for a while. I am seriously excited about being a part of Splashy Fen this year and showcasing what I am all about.
Outside of DJing, what does Chi Chi Algora enjoy doing for kicks? My world is just filled with music and all that surrounds it. I listen to a lot of music from EDM, hip hop, soul to indie. Besides just listening to music and thinking about gym, I also check out the latest gadgets in music and latest developments. Oh, and the occasional braai with my mates, and whipping anyone’s ass in Fifa on Playstation.
Will Chi Chi Algora take a dip in the icy river that flows through the Splashy Fen trout farm? That goes without saying, I’ve been looking around the malls for the perfect Speedo to go with the day.
