GIG OF THE WEEK

Kahn Morbee

Cafe Barcelona (tonight)

One of the best voices on the local rock scene has to be Kahn Morbee, the frontman of The Parlotones.

After making a solo album last year, you can hear him perform tonight at Cafe Barcelona (Shop 24, Elarduspark Centre, Barnard St, Elarduspark, Pretoria). The man whose talents include songwriting, singing and guitar playing is a one-man band who can do what even some ensembles cannot achieve.

His solo project, Milk, is a highly acoustic effort that has infectious melodies and strong lyrics. In fact, if you liked the Material from The Parlotones, then you will definitely enjoy Milk.

True artists write from the heart and Morbee’s music is addictive thanks to that fact. With the troubles that The Parlotones had with with their manager late last year, and Kahn having had a battle with polyps on his vocal chords, Milk is certainly an emotional project. This works very well with the Valentine’s weekend we are stepping into, if that’s your thing.

Who knows, if he is feeling good we might just get lucky and have a few classics from The Parlotones, so if you are a member of the Parly Army, come through.
