GIG OF THE WEEK:

Laurie Levine & Josie fFeld

Café Barcelona, Pretoria (Wednesday)

Josie Field, above, and Laurie Levine have joined forces for their Side by Side Tour.

Two forces of nature, Laurie Levine and Josie Fields, have embarked on a joint tour called The Side by Side Tour.

Since the leading ladies are always compared with each other, it is initiatives such as this which fans yearn for. It’s like having Mariah Carey on tour with Beyoncé. Now that would be a memorable show that would sell out in a matter of seconds. But that rarely happens, not so?

Back to The Side by Side Tour. Levine and Field started their careers in 2005 and over time |and through meeting at gigs they became friends. Both are music masters in their own right because they not only sing their material, they write it, too. To add to their talents, the two play acoustic guitars so you don’t need electricity to enjoy their gigs.

With that set up, you can imagine what the gig will be like |on Wednesday at Café Barcelona (shop 24, Elardus Park Shopping Centre, cnr Delmas Rd and Barnard St, Elardus Park, Pretoria). Both are Sama-winning stars with a talent for creating and performing good music.

From Levine we expect hit songs from her three acclaimed albums: Unspoken, Living Room and Six Winters. Field’s fans can expect the best of her work off Mercury, Leyland and 1984. The two, who’ve played internationally, will take all that experience to a cosy venue like Café Barcelona.

The duo have been touring the country since January, and with only a few more stops left before the tour comes to an end, this is your chance to catch them. |– Munya Vomo

• R60. The gig will start at 8.30pm sharp. Call 012 345 3602.
