GIG OF THE WEEK

Battle 4 Rumours

Rumours Lounge

(Sunday)

To all of you who love authentic South African music, the Battle 4 Rumours is where you are supposed to be this Sunday.

Taking place at the vibey Rumours (situated at the Palm Court Centre, corner of JG Strydom

and Cornelius streets in Weltevredenpark), the event will see a few bands battle it out for a place in the finals. The competition has been taking place all year long.

The remaining groups include TheeApex, Casket, Lesuth, Heed The Word, Soberdose, The Color Blew and The Great Fernandos. The general theme is metal meets rock meets acoustic folk pop and so we will be spoilt for choice.

Those who make it in this round gain a place in the finals taking place at Rumours on Sunday, December 7.

There is over R200 000 worth of prizes on offer for the winning band at this year’s Battle 4 Rumours.

Music Connection is sponsoring top of the range backline equipment for the winning band in December.

In addition to that, Atelier Studios is sponsoring a 12-track recording, so basically the winners walk out sorted for their next album.

While there’s a plethora of meaningless competitons out there, this event is aimed at stimulating the growth of bands, giving them constructive criticism so that they can continuously improve and become better entertainers.

The process has so many success stories from the past. Bands that performed in the Emerging Sounds competitions over the past 18 years include: Seether, Freshly Ground, The Parlotones, Prime Circle, Shortstraw, 340ml, The Finkelsteins, Cutting Jade, 1st Project, Pestroy, Chromium, Taxi Violence and the Blk Jacks.

Cover charge is R40. For further information contact the Squire on [email protected]
