Gospel singer Keke (pictured) is back with a new album, Divine Victory. The award-winning singer is more than happy with his efforts, saying he had worked his hardest on this project.
“It has been a long time coming. The theme for my album is in its title, it is a message of hope and a message of love,” said the singer.
“I’ve broken through many limitations and God gave me these breakthroughs in a way that I cannot explain.”
To try to make this project stand out from his previous albums, Keke and his creative team tried a few ideas with the sound.
“On this one we have gone from a-church-under-a-tree apostolic-style to modern Pentecostal charismatic styles,” he said.
“This is for everyone who is a gospel music lover.”
As with many of his albums, Keke wrote Divine Victory from a personal point of view.
“I was wrestling with many battles then,” he said.
“It was a situation of facing a Goliath and his amour-bearer in the industry. There was a major obstacle that stood in the way of my plans, but I found a way over it and I thank God.”
Although he is the overall brains behind the album, Keke had to rope in some creative people to up the quality of the album.
“Musically I worked with mostly new talent. Vocally I had young vibrant singers with whom I wish to still work in future.”
While many musicians do not like to say they prefer one song to another, Keke did not mind revealing his favourite tracks on the album.
“The special songs to me are Umthndazo Ka Mama (Mom’s Prayer) and Jeso Ke Karabo (Jesus is the Answer).
“I had these songs for so many years but wouldn’t release them as I knew of the power they possess because of the truth in them as my testimony.
“The timing wasn’t right and I want people to hear them now.”
With music come videos – and Keke aims to be a master storyteller.
Although he hasn’t released any yet, his videos are in the making.
“The videos I’m still working on. Hopefully I will be able to release them before next June.”
While we wait for the videos, the man with the golden voice will be touring the continent to promote his album.
“I’m in Nigeria next month. I don’t know for how long yet.
“Then we have Zambia lined up after that.
“Also, I’m going to put together a Keke Live DVD in Kenya late next year.”
During his tour he would sing most of his hit songs in Swahili, Keke said.
Divine Victory is available at music stores.
