THE MTV Base & Klipdrift Premium Urban Smooth Sessions return this weekend with a killer line-up to keep you on your feet all night long.
The urban music event, which takes place at the One & Only Entertainment Centre, R943 Sidiya Road in KwaMashu, blends contemporary urban greats with some of the coolest DJs in the country.
Saturday will see an amazing line-up of artists including Busi, Tresor, Big Nuz, DJ Heavy K, C’ndo, Junior de Rocka, King Sfiso and DJ Feel.
Tonight chatted to South African house DJ C’ndo, to find out more about her performance at the event.
“I was always part of the team and was one of the nominees at the MAMAs. We have been working really well with MTV Base and they recognise Durban talent and what we are all about. And my music has been doing well and has been on the charts and it’s all thanks to MTV, which is one of the reasons I’m featured in the Urban Smooth Sessions. And there’s a really good line-up. Like, Heavy K released his album which is doing exceptionally well. Big Nuz are representing Durban so they’ve managed to balance everything with songs happening in the house and Kwaito genre. So I’m really happy to be a part of it,” she says.
Often referred to as Durban’s finest lady, C’ndo developed an interest in DJing while she was studying at Mangosuthu Technikon. Thereafter, she learnt how to mix at Durban’s Finest DJ Academy.
In terms of her style of DJing, she says: “It’s what we call Durban Kwaito sound. People can expect a taste of songs from my new album. And my single called I Didn’t Mean It…”
On Saturday, C’ndo says you can expect a lot of “fireworks”.
“I always make sure I introduce new tracks from my label, Afrotainment. So people can expect to have a good time and expect lots of fire,” she laughs.
