Local twin musical duo LCNVL were voted the Best African Act for the 2013 MTV Europe Music Awards to take place in Amsterdam on November 10.
In the past six weeks, the group – alongside other acts such as Mafikizolo, P-Square, Fuse ODG and Wizkid – had the task of garnering support to be the African representatives at the annual European showcase.
“We tried not to think too much about it when the initial announcement was made, but a lot of people went on to support us anyway,” said one of the brothers, Brian Chaplin.
“Now that we have been selected to be the Best African Act, we are vying for the next stage, which is the Worldwide Act category, and we hope to get more support on that one too,” added Chaplin.
A total of 186 international acts will take part in the MTV EMA Worldwide Act competition, with genres ranging from indie rock to electro house.
It would be a milestone for the duo to get an EMA Award, if not just a nomination.
“We are happy to travel to Amsterdam just as nominees and be there for the experience, but the aspiration is obviously to have the win,” said Chaplin.
LCNVL have been one of South Africa’s most successful pop acts over the past five years.
The duo have also won Best Selling Album and Best Newcomer at the SA Music Awards.
They have toured the world and played alongside international talents such as Justin Bieber.
As it stands, LCNVL will go up against Yo Yo Honey Singh from India and Ahmed Soultan from Morocco for the chance to be one of 10 finalists to reach the last round of the Worldwide Act category.
Fans have until Thursday to vote for LCNVL at www .mtv.co.za or www.mtvbase. com to ensure that the group reaches the next round.
The representative for Africa/India/Middle East will be announced on November 1, along with the other regional winners from North Europe, Central Europe, South Europe, East Europe, SEA/Mainland China/HK/Taiwan, Japan/ Korea, Australia/NZ, Latin America and North America. - The Star
