#MAMANominees shock: No Cassper, AKA in ‘Hip Hop’

Only about 300 hundred people got the invite to the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) nominees' announcement party at the Constitutional Hill on Wednesday night.

The event was one of two, where they announced the nominees. The second part of the announcement event will be held in Lagos, Nigeria on October 02.

The stars showed up in all their glory to hear if they got the MTV nod. Red carpet moments took about an hour as the stars showed off their gear for the night, taking selfies while the 'paparazzi' captured the moments.

Hosts Nomzamo Mbatha (who looked gorgeous in her Africa print décolletage-bearing dress) and Sandile Ntshingila struggled to get the crowd to pay attention. Mostly because the free alcohol fromsponsor Absolut (the Khuli Chana edition) was already flowing freely.

But the crowd did comply with the request to observe a moment of silence for the late Kwaito star Mandoza.

When they got to the business of the day, one of the most shocking revelations was that neither AKA or Cassper had bagged a nomination under the Best Hip hop category. When the slide show of nominees in the category was over, everyone asked if it was a prank or the host stopped it halfway.

But the host confirmed that the 'Supermega' and 'Cassper' were not part of the list, with Sandile reminding the crowd that the competition doesn't just involve SA but Africa.

The two rappers are however nominated in other categories.

Another nominee that got the crowd buzzed was athlete Caster Semenya who is nominated in the Personality of the Year along with Pearl Thusi (who also appeared to be a favourite for the crowd), Linda Ikeji, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Wizkid.
