GIG OF THE WEEK
Zahara’s Phendula Tour
State Theatre, Pretoria (Friday, October 18)
The name Zahara needs no introduction, and whether you love her or not is entirely up to you. One thing you cannot do, however, is ignore her music.
Her double-platinum-selling debut album, Loliwe, boasted numerous hits in 2011 and, fan or not, you caught yourself humming along at some point or another.
The 24-year-old (pictured) went from unknown rural girl to instant star with a few strikes on a guitar chord.
And to prove to all her critics that it wasn’t just beginner’s luck, the singer is doing it again with her new single, Phendula, from her forthcoming album.
Phendula (meaning “respond” or “reply”) looks set to emulate the singer’s critically acclaimed debut album that turned her into a national treasure.
The song is already receiving generous airplay on all major radio stations and can be heard everywhere and anywhere.
The TS Records star isn’t wasting any time with her 11-city national tour.
Zahara’s Phendula tour is already under way and next Friday her Pretoria fans will have their prayers answered when the singer performs at the State Theatre.
The new album features artists such as the Grammy Award-winning Ladysmith Black Mambazo, acclaimed poet Mzwakhe Mbuli, the Godfather of Nigerian music, BET and MTV Award winner 2Face Idibia and the talented twins Anele and Neliswa Mxhakaza, who won many hearts and fans during their time on the current season of Idols. - Keamogetswe Moledi
