Africa Rising DVD
There are few people who have the ability to make seamless music crossovers and Black Coffee is one of them.
If you ever doubted a class session in the DJ’s laboratory.
Filmed in Durban at the Moses Mabhida stadium, which is apt as KZN is the house music capital, the show had an incredible turn-out. Black Coffee makes you feel less left out if you did not attend as the camera lens is well balanced between him and the crowd.
A lot of effort was put in to show us how he adds some sound effects by twisting this knob or pressing that button. Adding to the fun is the 24-piece orchestra, live percussion and keys. There is also a lot of his old material, with hits like Superman and Sik’khuzile which sound much better with the classic strings present.
The artists who help this process sound great include Zakes Bantwini, Victor Ntoni, Brothers of Peace, Bucie and DJ Oskido.
While each artist contributed to keeping everyone excited all night long, it was Bantwini’s closing act that made it all worthwhile. The man and his James Brown moves called Black Coffee to join him on the stage and they do a hilarious yet tight dance routine. A must-have.
