Popular Cape Town musician Ricardo Groenewald, 43, is still in hospital since being admitted two weeks ago when his legs started to go numb.

In an exclusive interview yesterday, Ricardo told The Star’s sister paper, the Daily Voice, he’s overwhelmed by the support of his family, friends and the church.

He said: “I want to thank everyone, including my senior pastor at the House of Mercy, Julian Claasen, who has been visiting me every day.

“From my symptoms I’ve been suffering from laziness in my legs, but my voice is still in perfect condition.”

Groenewald, who now sings gospel music, said he had no idea what’s wrong with him. Doctors were performing numerous tests on the singer, including doing a lumbar puncture on Monday.

The family hoped to have the test results back soon, so that he can receive the proper treatment for whatever was ailing him.

The former child star became a singing sensation at the tender age of eight with his group Ricardo and Friends’ hit song I Love You Daddy.

Groenewald’s three children have been at his bedside since he was admitted.

His wife Helen said: “Our children miss their daddy at home.”
