Over two days, the Cape Town Folk and Acoustic Festival will treat music lovers to an intimate concert. Presented by Real Wired Music and the Polo Jeans Company, some of the best guitar-wielding musicians in South Africa will help you usher in the long weekend.

Starting at 8pm, there will be an array of musos to marvel at. This year, veteran artist, David Kramer will be one of the major highlights. Also expect to see the likes of newer acts like Tailor, as well as Fruit Vendor. From bluegrass to folk to celtic music, jazz and more, there will be something for everyone who is into this genre umbrella.

For the eighth instalment of this festival, the organisers are pulling out the big guns. The likes of Valiant Swart, MacStanley, BlackByrd, Tailor and Hotwater’s Donovan Copley will play on both evenings. Other outstanding artists like Tony Cedras, Chris Verge, Roger Lucey and Nicky Schrire will also perform. Visit the Cape Town Folk and Acoustic Festival Twitter or Facebook page for exact line-up times. In addition to making music, the artists will also engage in some fine storytelling during their sets.

This festival will also be different in that none of the artists will have previously performed at any one of the previous festivals. That means it will be a first time experience for the musicians, which adds an interesting dynamic to what will already be an intimate setting for both the audience member as well as the artist.

As one of the organisers, Gavin Minter, commented: “Over the last seven Folk and Acoustic Festival events, we have showcased 118 artists and bands, involving approxi-mately 150 musicians.

“For this next concert we have decided to not repeat any of the artists from the past seven concerts. We want to keep it fresh!”

Don’t miss this stripped down concert-style weekend.

l The Cape Town Folk and Acoustic Festival takes place at the Baxter Theatre on Friday 7 and Saturday 8 August. Tickets are priced from R195 and are available at Computicket.
